Children's Liturgy Of The Word

Proclaiming and Explaining the Scripture

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a program for children ages 4 years old up to 3rd grade in which the Sunday scripture readings are proclaimed and explained on a level the children can understand and enjoy. Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place most Sundays during the 10:30 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church from September through May.

HERE'S WHAT CHILDREN CAN EXPECT
  1. Immediately following the opening prayer, the celebrant invites all the children to come forward for a blessing, and then the adult catechist leads them to the Fireplace Room in the parish office.
  2. After a brief welcome, they listen to the First Reading proclaimed from the Children’s Lectionary. Next, the Gospel is proclaimed by the adult leader. An age-appropriate reflection on the Word is shared by the leader through stories, discussions, or pictures—whatever the leader finds most appropriate to convey the meaning of the scriptures.
  3. The children are then invited to share their own thoughts and ideas.
  4. The children return to the church after the Prayers of the Faithful to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist with the entire community.
